The Importance of Goal Setting

Goals are directions in life. They can also be defined as our wishes and dreams with deadlines. They head us towards the right direction. Setting goals helps us stay on track and leads us to success. Just like rails that ensure a train to remain on its course, the goals direct us towards achieving our dreams.
Without setting goals, it is hard to have success. Our ambitions, dreams, and desires need to find expressions in goals. The goals should also be challenging but realistic, clear and timely.
The journey of achieving success becomes less tiring and much lighter if we formulate well defined goals. The reason behind it is that specific goals help us stay focused and help us avoid getting overwhelmed. They take us step by step towards the reality we envisioned.
Some obstacles on our way to success are normal. In overcoming them we become stronger and more determined than ever. However having too many obstacles on the way might signify not following the prescribed course of action or not having a well-defined goal that motivates and inspires us to take all the actions necessary to achieve it.
Working towards goals means having plans – long-term and short-term as well as daily “to do” lists that remind us the required tasks that need to be done within a particular period of time. We have to acknowledge where we are at a particular moment in time and know what steps we need to take at that moment to move closer to our goals.
Hard work is sometimes explained as the accumulation of easy tasks not done within a stipulated time. Success is not achieved if we fail to do these tasks.
Short term goals lead us towards achieving long term goals. The short term goals also help us to work on our long-term goals every day thus they guarantee our success. They make it easier to appreciate our work and prevent us from engaging into time wasting activities.
In the process of achieving our goals it is also important to get the required support from anyone who can help us with in the best possible way. Practical support can be available from coaches or teachers and moral support can be gained best from our family members and friends.
It feels great to reach a goal and acknowledge by celebrating.
